» Sharing Oral Gonorrhea?
Education that’s important to everyone.
While many people do not want to believe that they could contract an STI, it is a very real threat especially on a college campus that is known for partying.
The Center for Disease Control estimates 19 million new infections of Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and Chlamydia each year. It is also estimated that cases of these infections cost our healthcare system $17 billion every year. This doesn’t even include out-of-pocket cost for individuals.
On to even scarier statistics, an article in Pediatrics Digest the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics shows that one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in the United States is HPV the virus that causes genital warts. HPV can also cause cervical cancer in women. According to the National Cervical Cancer Coalition over 4,000 women die each year from the disease.
So what can you do?
Use protection. Get tested. Avoid using alcohol or other drugs which can cause you to engage in risky behaviors.

» Bullied student left passwords so investigators could see why he took his life
Every time I read a story like this it breaks my heart, but it can still become a teachable moment. It is important that we teach the next generation of youth the importance and the power of words. The words you say can have a tremendous impact on those around you so ask yourself what kind of impact you want to leave.

» UK Government Launches World's First Official Trans-Positive Campaign
“Like everyone else, transgender people have the right to be accepted, to live their lives free of harassment, and to be free to achieve any ambition they choose,” said Equalities Minister Lynne Featherstone. ‘Today is an important step, but I recognise that government can only go so far. So we will be working with schools, businesses and communities so that together, we can drive change and help consign transphobia to the past. Too many transgender people still face prejudice at every stage of their lives, from playground bullying, to being overlooked for jobs or targeted for crime.”

LGBTQ* Young Audience Literature To Keep On Your Radar
(Positive Queer Christian Characters)
The God Box — Alex Sanchez
High-school senior Paul has dated Angie since middle school, and they’re good together: they have a lot of the same interests, like singing in their church choir, and being active in Bible club. But when a new boy, Manuel, transfers to their school, Paul has to rethink his life. Manuel is the first openly gay teen anyone in their small town has ever met, and yet he says he’s also a committed Christian. Talking to Manuel makes Paul reconsider thoughts he has kept hidden, and listening to Manuel’s interpretation of Biblical passages on homosexuality causes Paul to re-evaluate everything he believed. Manuel’s outspokenness triggers dramatic consequences at school, culminating in a terrifying situation that leads Paul to take a stand. (from Alex Sanchez’s Website)
